I /ignore useless catastrophic people
As many of you already know, some weeks ago, scientists at cern turned on the LHC (Large Hadron Collider).
There was a lot of rumors about it, both for the importance of the event (it was the last step of a more or less 10 years and many bilions of euro project, that involved more than 1500 persons) and for the rumors about black holes.
Many (including news paper) speculated about it, just becuase it was a good chance to become more visible… and those who were trying to explain what really was going on, were obscurated.
I wont going into scientific details, I would just highlight some facts:
- Trying to apply Occam principle, I prefer to trust thousands scientists instead of few envy-pretend-to-be-scientists “Cassandras“. I mean, the possibilities they are wrong are so thin, that I don’t care too much.
- On 10th of september, NOTHING could have been happened. They just turned ON the whole machine, but not collision, no real experiment was scheduled.
- And, in the end, we, the Human race, don’t deserve a merciful end like a black hole. It would be too fair.
Let me explain the third point: a black hole would kill all of us.
No matter how white, black, yellow, red, rich, poor, saint, sinner, skilled, evil, good you are, you will die. Facing something like that, there is no chance to escape, no chance of salvation. No chance to survive unless a Protoss fleet comes and save us. But I think this a remote possibility.
So, even if there are details that point in the direction of a catastrophic epilogue
I have some doubts it would really happen. We, the human race, are… too damned to deserve an end like that. And all the catastrophic movies and books about humanity facing the total annihilation, just to find a way to live better and respect more the life and the nature, are just reflecting our need to change the current situation.
But here, in the real world, the events are no so fast, not so quick. Are worst. Are slow, and for this reason unstoppable… because none is really caring about it. But on the world, the work @ Cern, is the last of our problems. And we don’t need stupid “Cassandras”… I would prefer to see people stop to being so exhalted and proud to criticize work like the one @ Cern, and try to really save the planet.

I get all the pics from the web. The HalfLife pic can be found here.
